A Night at the Opera
You can now book your seats for the fantastic 2023 summer season at Grange Park Opera, which features three of the greatest love stories in opera, plus an exclusive gala with the legendary Bryn Terfel. This year the summer season runs from 8 June to 13 July.
Set in the grounds of West Horsley Place, Grange Park Opera is the perfect way to spend a summer evening. The 15th-century house was inherited in 2014 by the author and broadcaster Bamber Gascoigne from his aunt, the Duchess of Roxburghe and sits on a 380-acre estate in the Surrey Hills, only 23 miles from London and just a 20 minute drive from Barnett Hill.
Arrive early afternoon to get ready in one of the gorgeous Master Suites at Barnett Hill. There are five to choose from and each one is unique.

Once dressed (many guests wear black tie and long dresses which make for a stylish evening) you can either drive yourself or opt to be driven in a beautiful classic car.
Wander through the magnificent formal gardens, glass in hand, soaking up the beauty of the setting. A short stroll through the ancient orchard – passing a 300-year-old mulberry tree – leads to the five-tier opera house, modelled on La Scala in Milan, with its rose-covered colonnade, abundant sweet peas and a cooling fountain. Champagne, canapés, nuts & olives can all be pre ordered and be ready & waiting for you on the lawn by the house or in Gloria’s Tea Room you can enjoy tea and a slice of cake (we know which we are favouring!).
Performances begin early evening with rousing choruses accompanied by the Gascoigne Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orchestra.
Take your seat for Act 1 with internationally recognised artists, rousing opera choruses and 60 players in the orchestra pit.
This year choose from Puccini’s Tosca, Massenet’s Werther and Wagner’s Tristan Isolde, or perhaps you fancy all three! The season finishes on a high with a Bryn Terfel Gala on Thursday, 13th July.
The leisurely long interval is all-important and an integral part of A Night at the Opera. A three course supper with wines is served in the 15th century house or stake out and claim your own secret picnic spot in the walled gardens. Reserve a place in one of two marquees either on the Croquet Lawn or in the Orchard, or (if you are a larger party) dotted around are Indian pavilions. You can pre order a picnic or why not order one from the Barnett Hill kitchens? You can even book a porter to carry your picnic basket from your car to your picnic spot!
After the performance has finished wind your way back through the gardens to return to Barnett Hill for a nightcap before retiring to your room.
We wish you Suite Dreams…

The next morning wake up in a leisurely fashion – perhaps breakfast in bed is in order before a stroll through the gardens.
We look forward to welcoming you for A Night at the Opera.
